Game looks great and I am enjoying it, though I am struggling slightly with the controls. J to jump makes sense, but I don't always think to press it and hit Space by instinct and pause the game. Might get better with practice.

Butzbo responds:

Great to hear! Controls have always been a bit tricky for keyboard, as it comes to preference sometimes, but I'll keep this in mind as I keep updating to have more versatile options, thank you for playing! (:

Fun game. I've played this many times now. Cool to see a GDevelop project that can connect with NewGrounds Leaderboards. If you add tap buttons for jump and duck, you could make this game work on mobile too.

Edit: @tydaze. Oh yeah, I forgot you could have the mobile controls hidden depending on the detected device. Very polished game.

tydaze responds:

The touch controls should appear automatically when playing on mobile

I got this error (edit: had intended to paste the error but forgot) when I tried to use save for the first time. I was outside Antoine's house.

Edit: It was a aways into the game. I had arrived, talked to Antoine, explored the areas outside the maze, slashed all the bushes, entered the maze, slashed the bush over some stairs, retrieved a small key and gone back to the area outside Antoine's house to save. I also picked up the poem and examined every item in the inventory while in the house.

I am on Chrome, not incognito. I also just restarted the game to and tried saving inside the house after finishing the dialog and save worked. No idea how the error could have triggered last time.

Fiddleling responds:

Hello there, how are you? I am sorry for that bug! I am trying to replicate it, so could you specify a bit on what happens? Is it an error message? Does the game simply freeze or does it just not save? If you could tell which browser you are using and if you are on Incognito Mode it would help out too! Thank you very much!

Edit: The 2016-18 games appear to be working in Ruffle again as of this December.

As of November 2023, this game and many others in the 2016?-18? range are going to a white screen after clicking Play in the current version of Ruffle. Hopefully they will be playable again in future versions of Ruffle. I remember how exciting it was when Ruffle was FINALLY running these Flash3 games.

selfdefiant responds:

Some games only work in the Newgrounds player. I do hope Ruffle will allow them to work soon too!

That was great! You ought to tag it halloween2023 to be part of Newgrounds' annual Halloween event. That way, you can be part of the 2023 page and maybe even win a prize.

arudasics responds:

Thanks for your suggestion! I will do that right now!

This is neat. I guess it's inspired by the precursor to the Henry Stickmin games, "Crossing the Pit"? -- another short simple game focused on comedic fails as opposed to the player being smart enough to choose the "right" option.

Good luck on future games!

W0lfr3d responds:

Thx :)

Fine for a prototype. It really could use some background music and a jump sound effect for the character. I've found the jump effect in particular can really add a lot to a game. I don't use Scratch, but you might check if they have some built in sound effects or check out OpenGameArt or the Assets section of itch.io for some CC assets. I've found OpenGameArt in particular to be a really good source :)

DonaldTrump1946 responds:

update try playing it now ok

The visuals and effects in this game were extra well done.

y-zo responds:

Thank you very much!

Really liked this chapter and hoping for an update on Chapter 4 soon. The only part that confused me a bit was the communication mirrors. Up until then, every rule and trick of the mirror world made sense. However, the game did not really explain how two mirrors could be connected to two peoples' unique locations as opposed to a reflection of the room. On my second playthrough, it occurred to me that the mirrors could be each other's twin, which could explain the phenonium.

Edit: Wow! Did not expect you to be checking comments. Thanks for letting me know Chapter 4 is on its way. "The Splitting" is definitely one of my favorite web series. Good luck on development :)

FireberryStudio responds:

The pocket mirrors are indeed each other's twin!

Chapter 4 is still in early stages, we're working on it and hope to post an update as soon as we could.

This was a fun game. I had a laugh over the well being on fire XD
